No Man's Land Foods is a meat processing facility that was struggling with an outdated, entirely manual approach to food safety compliance. Director of QA, Gretta Wagner, and her team were spending enormous amounts of time on paperwork that could have been better invested in more proactive food safety & quality work.
"Pen and paper and spreadsheets. Through and through," Wagner explained when describing their previous system. The situation was made worse by a previous bad experience with another food safety software vendor that "promised a system for two years and we never got it, but we paid for it."
Drowning in Paper Documentation
The scope of manual work was staggering: 5-10 hours daily spent on paperwork review across five QA technicians, over 100 pages of documentation to review 3-4 times before pre-shipment, and manual addition of individual meat boxes across 30 pallets with 25 boxes each.
Wagner described their situation prior to Allera: "At least an hour a day per tech, which I had five techs. So it was like five to ten hours a day." The team was also hand-entering data into spreadsheets where formulas could be accidentally deleted, creating additional risks and inefficiencies.
Comprehensive Digital Transformation
After meeting Allera at a trade show, Wagner was initially skeptical given their previous experience. However, the ease of implementation and user-friendly interface quickly changed her perspective.
"When I talked to you in DC, I was pretty leery. I was like, you know, we've been fed this line before. But whenever we started working on everything, I saw how easy it was. That's what changed my mind."
Dramatic Efficiency Gains
The implementation was remarkably smooth, with production teams adapting almost immediately. The most significant impact was the dramatic reduction in time spent on documentation review and improved team engagement across all levels.
